A swim here would be no bueno, I’m guessing it would last for miles if you came out of your boat cause I didn’t see a single eddy to swim to or anything to even grab on to, not that you would be able to with the way that current was flowing.

Easy beginner course

I used to run Fish Creek all the time with my sister back in the 1970's and '80's , but have not been back in a very long time. When we were running it there were not golf courses or houses along it, and most of the foot bridges and some of the bridges for cars were not there yet. We would run all the way down to the Yampa river, run the gates on the river a few times, then go on down to a place that may not even be there anymore called the Steamboat Yacht Club where we'd grab some food and drinks along with other kayakers who were running the river. I don't know if the gates are even there anymore. They were upstream on the Yampa from a little park called Dr. <can't remember the name> Park. It had a little hot spring right next to the river. Anyway, there were slalom gates across the river for a distance upriver from the park, and ending at the park, and we'd practice on the gates either before or after running Fish Creek, then, as I mentioned before, head on down to the Steamboat Yacht Club. I was checking out the town on Google Earth, and I didn't see a single white water sports store. That kind of surprised me. Maybe they've all moved down to Glenwood Springs. It used to be the other way around, with stores in Steamboat and in Aspen, but not in Glenwood in spite of it's proximity to the Colorado River and up a bit further, Gore Canyon. Aspen was close to the Roaring Fork River, so that made sense, except you didn't want to buy a boat there because the prices of boats were jacked up like crazy there, as was all the rest of the gear. That looked like a fun wave you were surfing on the Yampa. I don't remember that one being there, but I do remember there being some good ones both through town, and for a distance after that. If you got a mile or two below that icky old mine quite a way west of town it started slowing down and eventually become pretty flat until after the town of Craig where it started picking up again on down until it met up with the Green River near Dinosaur National Park. It was hot down in that old canyon though.

I love kayaking but I don't think I'd do that. Although I do enjoy watching other do stuff like that.
